Research Assistant
Sara Nawaz
(PhD Candidate)
Sara is a second-year PhD student at IRES. Within the SES research group, Sara is working as a Research Assistant on the SSHRC-funded Novel Management Interventions in the Anthropocene project. As part of this project, Sara is helping to develop a “decision pathways survey” to explore the levels, logic and potential malleability of support/opposition for novel management interventions for conservation – such as assisted migration. Prior to studying at UBC, Sara worked for a consulting firm, Environmental Resources Management, where she helped conduct social and ecosystem services impact assessments, as well as economic and econometric studies relating to natural resource management. She has also worked at the World Resources Institute, providing research support to the President of the Institute. Sara completed her master’s degree at the University of Oxford in Development Studies, and her undergraduate degree at Swarthmore College (Pennsylvania, U.S.), in economics. Some of the things Sara is excited about include participatory research methods, ecosystem services, and sustainable agriculture. She also likes to rock climb.
